I can't tell you how great it is to be back!!!! It's been a bizarre couple of months. I have had an operation "resection of the prostate" two weeks ago-it went well but getting to it was a nightmare starting with my first covid test on Sept. 9th. Friday of that week my surgeons nurse called me with tears in her voice: "Mr. Lord I'm sorry to tell you but you tested positive for covid". Holy ****! Talk about being freaked out! So I began a 14 day isolation waiting each day for the disease to strike since I had no symptoms-day after day-is this it??!!
The 14th day arrived with me still having no symptoms whatsoever! Due to foul-ups with the hospital my operation was postponed twice. Finally, I was given the go ahead for another covid test-which was entirely different than the first one. And this time I got a negative.
Believe me, this whole thing was just incredible-two times(over two weeks) the hospital called for me to report for my operation when the doctor knew nothing about it-and before I had a second test!
Anyway, I finally had the operation and am recovering well-I feel for all the people going through the covid disaster. I hope all of you are safe and hanging in there. I've had a lot of time to think about Wolf-in fact that kept me in relatively good spirits.
Thank God for life and boats.........

That is great news for you and for us, Boatdesign without your voice is not the same.
You should certainly follow the Vendée Globe 2020 (in Sailboats Forum), the foilers have now a favorable sequence in the North then South trade winds, Linkedout and Apivia press the gas pedal to catch up Hugo Boss !
And soon the Jules Verne Trophy (in this Forum), Gitana 17 and Sodebo 3 (again operational after the hitting of a floating object in Oct.) are in stand-by waiting for a favorable window of meteo prediction. May be they will start within the same window, in one to one race conditions.

I'm rereading(studying) Marchaj's Aerohydrodynamics of Sailing and found this on the first page of the section on "aerofoil and hydrofoil action":

    by Louis Carroll:
from "Alice through the looking glass"
"I can't believe that", said Alice.
"Can't you" the Queen said in a pitying tone. "Try again; draw a long breath and shut your eyes."
Alice laughed: "There is no use trying", she said, "one can't believe impossible things."
"I dare say you haven't had much practice", said the Queen,"When I was young I always did it for half an hour a day. Why
,sometimes I believed as much as six impossible things before breakfast."

Doug, do you still believe, as you did in 2012, that a monohull can be built that is faster than a[comparable] multihull?

Yes, absolutely! The Moth proved the feasibility of that years ago beating every single multihull under 20'-and a few over 20'. Watch the new AC boats carefully-they'll be getting faster and faster!

From the Aerohydrodynamics of Sailing, p627:
"So, beware of tell tales-they are very sensitive flow indicators but they cannot possibly tell the whole truth as to whether the boat is sailed in a most efficient way"

One more from Marchaj-this time quoting Burgess(Americas Cup).
Great quote regarding a variable missed by many technically minded sailors searching for perfection--from p153:
"I wish to point out that there are a great many variables which influence the speed of the yachts. Perhaps one of the most important and least regarded is what the skipper had for dinner the night before the race. It makes a great difference. "

    Another tidbit from Marchaj:
The original "America"(the first America's Cup winner) was guaranteed(!)dl by her builder WH Brown. The guarantee: "to build a schooner that should outsail any other vessel at home or abroad, and agree to make her purchase contingent upon success".
