    Man Down

John took a tumble this weekend.
He says, "... just bruises, trivial."
    I hope it's trivial.

    Get well soon, John.

If he's built as sturdily as his boat, he probably wrecked whatever he fell on, and will be back to building tomorrow morning.

I'm fine. Good of you fine gentlemen to be concerned though.

I was more concerned with the sled.
    Just kidding. Glad you're ok.

Scarfing plywood in a dry shop. It's a pleasant change...

My chickens and woodstove wish you lived next door!

Nice scarf, especially for this time of year... oh, no, that's a different kind of scarf.

Glad to see some progress, John.

    Cheers!

I've just learnt something new - that is very neat how you scarfed 6 (or 7?) sheets at one time.
Did you use an electric planer, and do it by eye, following the lines of the different plies?

8 sheets. ⅜ plywood. An 8 to 1 scarf is 3" wide. So I stacked it offset 3" each layer, and used a power planer to get it close. Next I'll use a power sander to get it closer, and thickened epoxy with cabosil to bond.

Make sure your epoxy isn't too thick and also not too runny. You might also want to prewet the seams an hour before bonding. I have been surprised at how much endgrains like to drysuck epoxy from the thickened mix. Last summer, I butt bonded a couple 3/8" pieces of ash for varied stacking in a lamination of 4 of them and just picking them up; two broke because I did not prewet them.
