    Some late vid hurricane Irma ‘‘news’’ . . . (spare link) . . .

It would have needed only a few trees to come down on those fences to let the 2,000 sweeties out of there, I'm afraid . . .

Few folks realize how fast an alligator can move when he wants to attack something.. When I was at Pratt&Whitney out in the in the Florida swamp we had a bunch of Yankees that got transferred from East Hartford and these guys were feeding the gators soda crackers from the cafeteria at lunch where the gators would sun themselves on the banks of the lake out in front of the plant.. Those of us who grew up in So. Fla knew to give the gators a wide birth. These transplants had no experience with gators and were getting pretty close while throwing them food which is really a bad idea.... I saw this from a distance and when I got upstairs I took one of the fools aside and asked him if he knew how fast a gator could move.. He laughed and said they were really slow on land (a common misconception)... As I explained to him that on land a gator can cover 15 feet in about a second his eyes got as wide a saucers.. For short distances they use their tails to launch themselves and scamper on those short legs and it's amazing how fast the can strike something... You have to see it appreciate it.. Gators are nothing to be messed with. They are "Eating Machines" and you don't want to be anywhere near one if he decides he is hungry.....

It is not a nice feeling to be down range of one heading your way. Been there(Oklawaha River). Did that(Raced it back to the boat). Lucky I heard the splash on the riverbank when it came after me.

He objected strongly. When I wasn't paying attention, he destroyed it. :(

‘‘ A huge snow storm hit the San Luis Valley and temperatures dropped to below freezing. Some of the water at the farm froze over. The alligators that were trapped in the ice had to bust their noses through the ice in order to breath. Our job is to search and rescue these alligators and to move them into warm waters. ’’

The gator was fleeing, thought he'd seen Jim Cantore and as anyone knows a "5" on the Cantore is a very bad thing.

Love that video... that man has been around a lot of gators in his life I believe.... (although it was a little guy... he didn't seem phased).

My family goes down to the Peace River around Acadia Fl to hunt for fossils and generally enjoy being on the river. The campground run by Canoe Outpost is basic, isolated and absolutely beautiful. We swim in the river for hours at a time hunting the bottom for sharks teeth and other ancient fossils. Alligators bask along the banks and we always see the biggest ones on our way out, wondering, "Where the #€[[ was that guy when we paddled in?"

Once, I was just coming up in chest deep water when a couple in a canoe drifted by. The woman in front asked me, "Aren't you worried about alligators?"

I said, as she drifted down stream, "Well, you know, you wrestle two or three of them and you start to get a reputation."

She had twisted around to look at me and the hight her surprised eyebrows achieved:eek: made her husband burst out laughing. :p
