In glass 35 years old it might be hard to match tints, even in clear, "white" glass. If glass is separated port and stbd as in side windows, it might not be noticeable, but if side by side, as in a 2 or 3 piece forward facing windshield, you might have to replace more than just the broken piece if looks are a big factor.

I think the video is biased. The tempered glass was struck with a head of somewhat sharp edges. The laminated glass was struck with a rounded edge baseball bat. If they used the same instrument, i would say it is fair.

I have seen a video of both glass (tempered and laminated) struck with a piece of wood with an embedded nail. Both glass broke, with the tempered glass shattering, the laminated glass breaking radially from the point of impact but not disintegrating, The spike did not go thru. Which one is stronger, I can't say, but the laminated glass prevented the deadly object from penetrating and kept some of the glass visible enough. If it was tempered glass and just broke into thousand pieces but stayed in place, it will go cloudy and prevent you from seeing the road. I know, I broke one at high speed.

Correct me if things have changed but I know that road cars front windshield is required to use laminated glass but the side and rear window can be tempered glass.
