Small Boat Build

I see now. That should make those boxes pretty sturdy. I'm wondering how much you will have to document that there is actually foam in any sealed spaces, so that you can avoid labeling. A boat built here for commercial purposes needs to have a few actual inspections during the build process. Perhaps you will need an inspection. I'm actually a little surprised you need any thing like a 'builders plate' for a homebuilt, personal use boat such as that. I guess this wouldn't be acceptable there...

That boat is all flotation, even the 4 masts.
He would get busted for lack of safety equipment.

 

The building plate process from what I've found so far is just recorded photos and measurements.
Photos to show level flotation or basic flotation (turtle) with with it full of water, and a load test of 80kg per person + 10kg.
It reads as if half the weight is on the center line and the rest as far to one side as seating allows without water coming in the boat. (May have to get the weight witnessed??)
As far as know I will only need a builder plate if I sell the boat. But looking into it anyway, as we have a bored police patrol boat that frequents my local area.
I have a boat licence, not required for this size boat. But if things go to plan, I imagine a planing unregistered boat will be high on their radar...

The upside down 4 mast is a bit of an inspiration for the project!
Surprising how much faster the simpler designs go. Currently riding flat surfboard with no fins, and it's so quick vs a traditional short or long board.

 

Round here, he'd be done for speeding, , no broads tax, probably no insurance, The boat would fail it's Safety certificate for an insecure fuel tank. other than that No problem..
You Don't need builders plates here for home built boats, unless you start making and selling them..

Slowly getting through the internal fit out, which has been nice and interesting to do.
Have finally got the transom to how I would like it to be finished after a few different ideas.

 

Did you leave enough room for the motor leg to turn?

Yes and no. I’ve got about 160deg useful range stop to stop. When I say stop, that’s where it hits the extensions.

Also have changed from guessed 15.5 inch mounting height on the transom to just over 17inch to get a bit more of the draggy engine out of the water.

Will, don’t worry. It’s just thickened epoxy that hasn’t had a paint pen over it

Different looking, that's for sure, you will have water climbing those extensions behind the transom, pretty spectacularly in turns, I would think. To the naked eye it appears there isn't enough room for full steering.

 

Getting a little bit more completed now the holidays are over.
Seats glued in.

 

Top capping strip across the transom to match the sides, was almost not going to do this, but happy I did.
