Stability Criteria

I am preparing an Intact stability booklet for my new project in Maxsurf. Its a small shallow draft houseboat. Boat size is L=10.90m, B=3.40m, D=0.90m, d=0.50m Catamaran type.

Now I am confused about the stability criteria requirement for the Large angle stability calculation. Which criteria I have to select? What is the requirement? Need help.

 

Try to read something other than software help. Some books, some stability regulations. Believe me, it works.

In addition to recommending that you follow the advice that you have previously been given, you should consider the fact that the stability criteria that are applied do not depend, in general, on the type of hull but on the type of ship, cargo, passage, recreation, ... Perhaps that will help you find the criteria applicable to your boat. However, as far as I know, there are no specific criteria for house boats so you should consult with a regulatory body to decide which criteria would be the most appropriate for your boat. In what conditions should the boat sail?. That could help focus the problem.
You can also set your own criteria, for example, try that no movement of weights on board produces a decrease in freeboard greater than X% of the initial freeboard. I can't think of anything better or more specific to say to you.

TANSL, this might not work, to ask the regulator body, if they are not experienced with this type of vessel. Say, in India IRS applied IMO IS code criteria for monohull ships to non-high-speed catamarans. We had to convince them to use HSC Code Annex 7 insead, as more appropriate.

 

It probably won't work but it doesn't hurt to check. I am not referring to the Classification Societies but, for example, to ISO 12217 or to any maritime authority which, in the last case, is the one that must give that boat permission to operate.
In all probability the HSC Code Annex 7 will be valid for this boat but he should ask some questions because the fact that the speed has to be necessarily low and the very special navigation area (perhaps even the boat should not move) can make that code is very difficult to comply with.

 

What is the boat designed to do... what is in the specification for the boat?

For a 10m houseboat, I will use ISO12217-1 criteria. They have option for wide craft which includes catamarans and pontoons.
