Here's an American Crocodile spotted in the Everglades in 2019. (Flemish spoken video)

‘‘ First we thought it was a Alligator but by a closer look we realized it was a American Crocodile. Florida is home to more of 2 million Alligators and 2000 Crocodiles in the wild. So we where really lucky. ’’

Below a 2012 CNN report about them coming back in Florida...

And below some more crocs spotted in FL . . .

Hoyt lives North of Cuba he says, so I'll guess he attracts them from there . .

Well, How 'bout that? I have lived in central; Florida since the bronze age. I had no idea that there were more than a few crocodiles. I had to learn that from a guy in Belgium/ Netherlands? The world is smaller than I thought. Thank you A II for the heads up.

I am something of a wildlife admirer but Crocs and Alligators are where I draw the line. Alligators are claimed to be an essential part of the ecosystem...........No matter, I am in favor of reducing the population of those critters. Not 15 miles from my home there is a lake called Lake Hancock. It is believed to have a gator population of more than ten thousand. The lake is of only modest dimensions. That lake is definitely not a favorable place to swim or use a paddleboard. The lake is part of a waterway that includes the Peace River which eventually dumps into Charlotte Harbor on the lower west coast.

I camped at Lake Hancock when I was 12. That is where the aforementioned cowslip incident occured. I spent a lot of time in the water to escape the ravenous mosquitos that weekend.
I am just lucky I guess.
One of my fellow campers got stepped on by a calf.

Not that common, seemingly. Still, it does take away from recreational activities, having the risk registering in the back of the mind.

Swam in some gator infested waters. Actually was chased by 8 foot long one in the Oklawaha River when I was young and dumb.

I was actually surprised by Hoyt talking about Crocs in Florida, so I've looked for them on the web, first thing that showed up for me was the video about it with some Flemish talk, and the subsequent videos linked in the comments there, so shared it after your post, the web is full of everything, including surprises . .

Thanks for your many thoughtful posts all over these forums !

I've just read the below on Wikipedia about Cuban vs. American CrocodilesInterspecies Predatory Relations

‘‘ . . . . In areas where the two species coexist, the smaller but more aggressive Cuban crocodile is behaviorally dominant over the larger American crocodile. . . . . ’’

P.S. - More about it in this Cuban Crocodile Crocodylus rhombifer PDF

Some of our best Americans are Cubans. I love them.

A large sign at the Lake Hancock launch ramp reads: Kayaks and canoes are prohibited from launching here. That is a wild and crazy lake at this time of year. A loud horn will be blown five minutes before the county releases a huge flow of water into the lake via one its feedways. The wash from the sudden release of a gazillion tons of water is hazardous for small boats if the happen to be near the flood entrance way.

Hoyt are you referring to the Cuban sandwiches that we like so much? It is almost obligatory to have Sopa De Garbanzo (Spanish bean soup) along with our Cuban sandwiches......and no, alligator meat is not one of the ingredients in either of those culinary delights.
