Fair enough, we come in all shapes and sizes. Where I draw the line is, for example, when someone puts up a MANIFESTO in all caps, and the very first words are "Many people misunderstand life", and then goes on with a collection of cherry picked arguments justifying a rather poorly performing collection of design choises. A whole model range of them. And on top of that cloaks his boat designing and building hobby into an excercise in sustainability... duh...

I was a lot happier following his exploits before it all got too obvious, but then again, this isn't about me. Or is it? His projects live off publicity. I am a member of his public. He keeps throwing this stuff at us, I think he is entitled to critique, even though he does not provide a channel for a dialogue with him.

That's the by Danger Ashipala of SWAPO captured South African soldier Johan van der Mescht in 1978, he was eventually among seven others exchanged at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin in 1982, for the Russian spy Alexey Kozlov.

They were Per Sanden and Tommy Bergh'Remember Cassinga?' an exhibition of photographs and histories

‘‘ . . . . 13 This is a photograph of Johan van der Mescht, the South African soldier captured by SWAPO on the night of February 18-19, 1978 outside Elundu. The photo was taken by Per Sanden and Tommy Bergh, Swedish film-makers who were travelling with the PLAN unit involved in the Elundu attack. Their mission was to collect material for a documentary film commissioned by the SWAPO leadership. Some weeks after Van der Mescht's capture, Sanden and Bergh filmed an interview with him at one of SWAPO's Lubango camps. This interview was included in a film screened by television networks in European countries beginning on May 9, 1978. The film also included footage which Sanden and Bergh had taken at Cassinga during their visit there the week before South Africa's attack. Neither Sanden's film nor the coverage of it in the international press noted that Van der Mescht also spent time at Cassinga, where he was detained as a prisoner of SWAPO. . . . . ’’

I of course look it up, but he has published it so that people would read it. If not so, why publish it?

Sure, Sven publishes it to be read, but isn't actively throwing it at anyone as you suggested.

It was just an aside started by mentioning some Swedish nationals, as the thread's topic is about one, guess it already has ended by now.

Here's the first line in full:

‘‘ Many people misunderstand life. They think comfort is happiness, but unfortunately, that kind of happiness only works in the short term because, like drug abuse and instalment purchases, it burns energy intended for your future well-being. ’’

I fully agree to that first line, but would like to express it a little more strongly by replacing the first word with ‘‘Most’’.

However anyone who misunderstands life in that way wouldn't agree to it as long as they misunderstand life, as ignorance is some sort of paradise, at least for the ignorant.

    P.S.

‘‘Ignorance Is Bliss’’ is a phrase coined by Thomas Gray in his 1768 Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College.

‘‘ - To each his suff'rings: all are men,
    Condemn'd alike to groan,
    The tender for another's pain;
    Th' unfeeling for his own.
Yet ah! why should they know their fate?
Since sorrow never comes too late,
    And happiness too swiftly flies.
    Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more; where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise. - ’’

Sorry for the distraction, but I always have to laugh at the wholesome musli eating peaceful leftists... I'm the racist settler pig (married to a black woman BTW) who was killing babies - no I was removing mines for everyones benefit. The Swedes, aided and abetted a terrorist organization who was supplied by Russians, Cubans, East Germans and Chinese. There was nothing fair about the "Democratic process" in Namibia at any time, that is true till this day. One small tribe in the far north of the country dominating the politics of the entire nation. Anyone who spoke against swapo was dead, its as simple as that.

As much as I'd like to support other peoples service, or useful causes, please take politics elsewhere. I have enough in the US.

I have enough of a hard time trying to understand the usefulness of Sven's boats, much less politics.

On the other hand, the interesting thing about a forum is that everyone gets to write what ever they please.
My only defense is to leave.
Some people would probably be happy.
Well I could get really nasty, since I also can write whatever I want.
