Evinrude discontinued

That's the end of a very long history. It does seem people want 4-stroke, and not DFI 2 stroke. Which is a reduction in choice for the consumer. Servicing costs are lower too, for the two stroke.

 

It's a darned shame.

 

It is a shame. There are a lot of evinrude owners and they will be very upset about this.

It’s just a matter of economics.
Evinrude made choices that obviously did not Appeal to a large segment of outboard buyers, and have suffered the consequences.
The company blames the closing on Covid 19.
Too bad, I’m a big fan of two stroke motors too, and EFI two strokes are light, quiet and powerful.

I stand corrected.

 

Evinrude's got a look when I was shopping. The etec 90 ho comes in heavier than a Yamaha vmax 90. I had a hard time with a two stroke weighing more than a four.

Perhaps the company didn't get the memo to avoid nonsensical pitches to customers? You'd think they'd at least have said we have to win on weight? That would have meant losing about 40 pounds or more.

As a customer, I did not delve into the why; I just said nonsense.

The Yamaha is 353 pounds; the etec is 390 pounds.

Evinrude looks like it lost an engineering battle to me.

 

I think the 90 was the smallest in that block design HP. The last advertisement said it went up to 140 hp. As a 140 it was very light, the 90 not so much.

 

many of the new 4 strokes that are on the market have gotten light due to some very high tech die casting.
Meaning they are paper thin, lets see how long they last?
