Unstayed carbon fiber mast on cruising catamaran?

    The mizzen can still be a decent size and you wouldn't lose area if the sail proportions are adjusted. And you still have 2 masts, one in each hull, main in one mizzen in the other. The advantage would be no blanketing in the offwind 90 degree zone mentioned by Phil, no mizzen blanketing upwind like a traditional cat schooner/ketch and the possibility of some very flexible light air sails. The mizzen jib for example would be about across from the main sail. The main side jib could even go on a sprit for a large for triangle. A storm jib in the mizzen jib location would be about in the center of effort for balance but you'd have to run running backs to keep the luff straight.
