    Hi Doug,
    ofcousre there are many boats out there ranging vastly in performace.
    We are diverginf a bit but:
    The variation of AWA (apparent wind angle) with height can be very easy calculated with the wind gradient and trigonometry.
    Below an example of the variation for a slow, fast and very fast yacht.
    This is at 10knots wind speed and 40deg True wind angle.
