    They are also sensitive to crew position. When testing the sailing characteristics, you might want to stimulate a load and crewed vessel.

    The change in trim will have a great effect on position of CLR and CE.

    In thinking about your criteria of a 5m boat to cross an ocean in, you might take a look at some of the design elements in the ComPac 16. A small boat that sails well and has accommodations of a boat 2-4 feet longer.

    My father had one converted to a sprit rigged sloop, by Clark Mills, that he put a fixed keel on with a 3hp Volvo diesel in.
    He then sailed her from Clearwater, Fl to Bar Harbor, Me. I read accounts of weekends trips to the Bahamas from Miami, across the Gulf Stream. They do well. My father reported 5 knots no matter the wind and tack.

    IMG_20200605_182558.jpg Making daggerboard inn front of the mast. The bended profiles are holding a piece of protecting antichafe fiber. Its going to be a "5m fjord cruiser." (No ocean...)
