    Hello all,

I'm trying to import an iges surface into Maxsurf from Rhino. I started with a simple surface of a hull but trimmed it and added parallel midbody. I used the ShrinkTrimmed command to trim the net defining the surfaces to their boundaries. When I import the surfaces the stern and mid section import fine, but the end control points at the bow (where it was split) are not well defined as shown in the attached screenshot.

Do any of you know how to rectify this problem?

I have also attached the iges file. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Dave

    Hi folks,

Hmm... thank you very much for trying it... I exported an iges file from maxsurf and then re-imported it and it appeared to work. Does anyone have any ideas why?

Are there any suggestions as to what I could do to skip the middle step?

What version of Maxsurf are you using to import the file? More recent versions may do a better job, particularly if trimming is involved.

    Hello Sir/Madam,
i imported the iges format hull from rhino to maxsurf, but the trimmed surface in bow part reappears here in maxsurf and also my single hull surface is split in more than one.

Nikdbst when rhino exports a trimmed surface as iges and can be import as trimmed but the original surface control points are still there, it is not a new surface. Maxsurf is a surface modeller you control the shape by manipulating points so maxsurf wants to see the original surface and without a trimming surface etc can’t trim. I re did one side of your file as a single surface no trimming and it imports into maxsurf. Also If you join surfaces in rhino they export a separate surfaces.

Would you please let me know that in which software you designed that hull i mean rhino or maxsurf.
Because that was awesome. When i tried in rhino i was not getting the hull as good as yours.
If you could help me improving my skills in rhino then please provide me your suggestion.
Once again thanks for your kind effort.

Nikdbst I imported your original file into maxsurf and rhino to get a starting point for the shape you were after. I stayed in maxsurf to do the surface changes as I find for this type of hull it is faster and easier than rhino. The same process can be done with either. Here is an iges file of three hulls, the bottom is the changed original the middle is a similar hull done in rhino and the top is maxsurf. Select all the surfaces and turn on their control points. Which would be easier to edit and fair.
