I just received an email from Mike D's daughter that Michael passed away on May 7 from a cerebral hemorrhage. I was the recipient of one of Michaels random acts of kindness when he helped work out some calculations. I suspect he helped quite a few folks.

    What a shame

That is terrible news. The experience he had will be missed here. We exchanged PM’s several times. He knew how to get right to the point.

That is very sad news indeed but thank you for letting us all know.

He seemed to be one of the most knowledgeable and helpful folks I've ever met, going well above and beyond to help everyone. Even though I knew him only from his excellent posts and helpfulness and kindness here on the forums, he truly will be missed.

Mike will be missed by many of us I am sure.
I for one was the recipient of his patient teaching both directly and through others, and it is sad to hear of his passing.
He has many friends here and will be fondly remembered.

I've only just discovered this thread - and what terrible news. As you have all said, Mike's informative and down-to-earth explanations of the black art that is boat design will be sorely missed......
