I often write m2 and mm2 or mm4 when I mean m^2, mm^2 and mm^4.
It saves time....

You can bend a steel plate 720 dregrees and it will still work.

Ragnar is certainly a knowledgable peer and I was engaging in some friendly banter. It is often hard to properly construe the true nature of written messages. Which is why the little faces are there.

As an engineeer I design but I do not have much experience of building; yards have their own approach and often very helpful rules of thumb. The steel plate is to be sent off to a remote area and since 8mm is a bit on the thick side I needed to know whether to get it pre-rolled or whether they could pull it to shape easily without distortion.

Murielle is using 5mm plate which is a little different. Raggi’s approach is back to basics which is refreshing , but I have been bitten before with what you should be able to do and what a boilermaker is happy doing.

I browse the boatdesign website while working and often have little time to thoroughly read through the math. Having taught engineering in the dim past I always scan through the units to check a calculation, hence what may appear a rather brusque response which was supposed to be a humorous ‘see me after class’ approach.

In future please keep your posts devoid of personal insult. Your input re 720 degrees is also unhelpful . We could do with better posts than this, I look forward to your next effort.

 

What would expect that number to be with equal shallow compound curves in both x and y?
