I've never doubted that you would keep your word Hoyt, and it didn't take that long at all because you're not around those stilties everyday, so the pics required a boat trip to them when time and opportunity arose, so thanks very much for your effort and the great pictures . .

I'm glad they're still there after being so close to the eye path of Irma I think, and I'm amazed they appear to be in such a good condition after the ordeal . .

Many thanks for posting the update . . :)

Irma actually passed well east of them. We were told our house was going underwater but it didn't. Trees fell on my sister's roof and also crushed 2 automobiles in her yard. That was about 43 miles southeast of here.

Which means inland it was worse than at these stiltsies out there ?

If so, then they were very lucky, but too bad for your sister !

I was in the area where Irma met her demise. Just to the southeast of me, the storm went from well organized to a flogging mess, within a few minutes (30). It's a common occurrence with storms that come up the "I-4 corridor". Interstate 4 crosses the state from Tampa to the east cost, meeting with I-95, near Daytona. Common weather patterns have storms (and hurricanes) cross from the southwest, diagonally to the east. Orlando is in the middle of this route, but geography comes to play. Down the western center of the state is a ridge of hills. In fast moving summer storms, an occlusion occurs with east and west sea breezes meeting in the middle, sparking violent storms. This usual happens on either side of this ridge, meaning westward moving storms reach the St. Pete/Tampa area and they get hammered, then as the storm moves east, it gets knocked apart crossing the ridge. The same occurs in the other direction. Irma suffered the same fate, coming in from the west, just below St. Pete, turned and headed east and ran into the tallest portion of the central hills ridge, which literally knocked the legs off the storm. I was on the generator watching the radar and the eye wall was well defined, just below and to the west of a town called Clermont, then slammed into the hills and literally within a few minutes the eye wall lost it's eastern edge and turned into an arch of wind and rain, rather than the defined circular wall. Within a half hour the winds had died down considerably, as had the speed of the storm and the eye all but disappeared. Instead of traveling east across the state as most predicted, she climbed north, shepherded along this ridge of hills into the panhandle.

I too am glad the sticker's made it, but they've seen this sort of thing many times and the ones that weren't tough enough, have already fallen down. Those that remain will likely continue to do so, until wood rot kills them.

The soil is very sandy near my sister's house which lies quite close to the Alafia River( Alafia River - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alafia_River ), so when the ground gets soggy it surrenders its tree roots easily as it is subjected to strong winds. Roots can be seen exposed to the light as you travel through the countryside.

Thanks. I still have to add switches and horn buttons as well as a sunglasses shelf and a 12 volt marine grade accessory plug. The fishfinder will be mounted on the top ledge with a rear view mirror and a camera mounting. The front will serve as a seat back. There will be internal storage shelf for keeping phones, etc. dry.

After arthroscopic shoulder surgery and a long recovery the console is finally installed and the boat made seaworthy again just in time for Lima flag to go up here north of Cuba.

Puppis furcata is a lousy name but a good description.
Henceforth the boat shall be called Covfefe.
