Hello everyone, first time here. I have a question. What allows some gelcoats and polyester resins to cure fully to non tacky surface without PVA or wax additive. An example would be Duratec. What is the additive to make this possible. Thanks

It’s not an additive, it’s the base resin used to make the products. The chemistry isn’t air inhibited like the normal polyester base.

No. I’m new to resins. I just thought there was an additive out there for any gel coat to do this except wax. Sorry won’t ask any more questions.

The Duratec is used on unwaxed gelcoat. It also lowers the viscosity so it can be sprayed like an enamel.

I may have misunderstood your question.

Adding the Duratec clear additive to gel coat does allow it to cure tack free, you typically need a 50/50 blend to do this.

There is a complete line of Duratec products that use the the same chemistry to achieve a tack free cure.
