It most certainly is not 195 dbA. That would indeed blow out eardrums. Outboards are pretty loud though. We measured 112 dbA at the transom for the 55hp motor on the Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC), That motor (the 55 hp Evinrude MFE55 with a jet drive) does not have a "through the prop" exhaust and that makes it a good bit louder than a conventional outboard. I'd expect that the noise levels is closer to 100 or maybe 110 dbA since there are two motors here, but that's still loud.

I don't know what Ed is looking for, I sent him a PM and he didn't respond. We're doing exactly what he is looking for under a current U.S. Navy contract, but he hasn't responded.

You don't know what he's looking for, but you're doing exactly what he is looking for ? Maybe re-phrase that !

What I meant was it looks to us like we have what he appears to be looking for, but he doesn't seem to be interested.

    Manny,
I own an 89,500 square foot building in Scottsdale's Airpark, I purchased it about 12 years ago. It's kinda unique building as it backs up to the tarmac of Scottsdale Airport and has two large hanger doors on the back, (knew previous owner but never ask him what he did, except he also maintained a low profile) which turns out to be quite convenient. Has enough underground parking to keep our low profile. Building has a small sign that you have look for and a good day, maybe 3 or 4 cars in the parking lot. So we don't get a lot of visitors or sales folks. Doors are locked, most require biometric ID to open. Have about 60 folks all but 6 are veterans (pretty sure at least one has to be with Naval intelligence) that get their checks from Wysprjet, all signed by me. I'm telling this to set a backdrop... I have a dear friend and blood brother, Erik Prince, (Blackwater) he's always been there to back my moves and is now a principle investor. I reached out to him several months back for a couple of RIBs. About a week later I came in the office to the silent alarm on the hanger doors, checked the monitor and had two large "parcels" one was a 28' and the other a 32' RIB san engines and weapons.

Our design now extends what is now a step thru transom by 6-1/2", maintaining all other dimensional aspects and elements, including weight and cg. We removed the back 1/3 of the deck and existing transom, install our conductive rails to accept our slid in power plant module. Top surface of our module becomes the back 1/3 of the deck. When we get "8" greens (means we are 100% sealed and locked) our control module then initiates handshake contact with RIB's master controls. We have also incorporated hard point mounts (2) for LIDAR controlled GE mini guns as a part of our "deliverables".

My Tesla power plants (I currently have three with open contract for six more) each rated at 380 hp/487 ft/lb of torque and are capable of 10,000 RPM. I'm using one or mock of it in our bass boat project, which isn't get much attention right now. These highly compact units coupled with their battery packs (prototypes) have proven capable of meeting a 4 hours at cruising speed (50 kts) followed by station holding for 4/5 hours and 4 or 5 hours of full up shake and bake before extraction, while reducing acoustic profile by 600% criteria. So our prototype battery packs have enough capacity for minimum of 16 hours with 20% margin against that criteria and performance profile.

The math clearly shows that's pretty much impossible with what's commercially available, however not for Elon - half the size and a 1/3 of the weight of what's currently commercially available. Manny, I didn't ask, just signed the secrecy agreement and my check. I know Tesla is doing some advanced stuff for Spacex. I'm assuming these battery packs are from that program. Now the battery packs are housed in conformal nacelles that hug the inside of the inflatables. Out of concerns for heat we did extensive testing and added a unique gill design incorporation into the nacelles to increase water flow and surface area.

That's another feature of my building, a massive autoclave, full machine shop all paid for by me so I don't have to use outside sources, we can handle close to 95% in house. When you mentioned what your doing with improved water jets I jumped at the opportunity to see what you may have that improves performance and lower acoustic signature, two areas that we haven't been able to achieve much success in.

I now find myself sharing weekly updates with staff, Tesla and a Vice Admiral Vince Rogers, Naval Weapon Systems Development, San Diego... Oh I am getting paid through Erik's group on a preexisting time and material contract... talk about "off the radar"... It's been a much heated topic with my board of directors which are also former operators. Rogers showed up shortly after the RIBs and gave a through briefing so only Erik and I know. We both have top secret clearances. There's no doubt I will get trouble for telling you all this so I guess you have to consider yourself as read into the program...sorry about that.

    Yellowjacket:
I responded to your PM over a week ago and heard absolutely nothing so now I'm posting it on the forum, Yes, I know this is "supposed" to be a non-adversarial forum that should be devoted to marine activities, yet as I sit here and read some of the comments being made I am beginning to wonder. Having said that, there are certain individuals that I will not be responding to just to avoid any further misunderstandings or mis-characterizations. With regards to the db levels that have been captured on twin 150's under full throttle, I may have mis read the numbers but it's worth rechecking. Thanks for the not so pleasant reminder.

Simple reality, Ed, is that something with the performance and endurance you speak of, as a battery powered boat, would sweep the floor of conventional opposition. Unless it involves some nascent battery technology that is still horrendously expensive, and is not yet known to the hoi-polloi. How much did you pay for this package ?

Ed, Never got a reply to my private message, maybe that feature isn't active on new users or something like that. Sent you another message and have included contact info so we can take this off line. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Got frustrated trying use the PM feature to send my response. I agree we need to take this off line.

The price point is highly prohibitive, but the results, from my perspective makes the $$$$$$ worth it. Which price? The power plant? Or the battery packs? Needless to say my contract with Elon and Tesla came from personal funds... glad I don't have any kids that require tuition help. My board would require cardiac assistance if they knew or if they we're ask to approve the purchase.

Obviously one assumes the battery pack is the key component, obviously if it costs megabucks it may not be interesting for the time being, but if costs come down, it could be revolutionary

You seem to be the doubter, Ed, by lamenting that the efficiency of existing jet drives, in converting power into forward progress, falls short of your requirements. I'm not actually convinced the jet drive would be a problem, given that the application appears to call for the boat running at high speeds, which is where the jet drive actually catches up to propeller drives, largely by reason of less appendage drag.
