** Imoca : Apivia winner, their first briefing here below (in French). Of course, they know that they had a miraculous crossing of the Doldrums at the contrary of all others Imoca's, but they had their part of problems : early in the race they faced a tear in the main sheet, 24 h to repair it (and 24 h to recover from this huge effort). Behind, battles for the 2nd rank (PRB versus Charal), for the 4th rank (11th Hour versus Advens), for the 6th rank (Banque Pop / Clarisse Crémer versus Initiatives cœur / Samantha Davies).
Interviews of Charlie Dalin and Yann Elies :

** Class 40 : the first three are now in the beginning of the south trade winds, the crossing of the Doldrums not problematic as it was for the Imoca's, the scow Crédit Mutuel still leading by 50NM. Interesting to follow which speed they can sustain in the coming beam reaching leg, inc. the 2 followers Leyton and Aina Enfance et Avenir which are both Mach 40.3 design by Sam Manuard : http://sam.manuard.free.fr/MACH40.3.htm

Arkea-Paprec has announced that their unique foil broke (without preventing, like did their port one before the race) after just 2 hours of beam reaching in the south trade winds, this is the explanation why they could not sustain the same speed as others. By hoping that they can understand what was the weakness of this first set of foils and to see them soon with new improved ones. Class 40 : this last run of beam reaching by flat sea is a bit the piece of cake of the race. Crédit Mutuel is still leading by 57 NM now, at an average speed over 12 Knots which should continue to increase gradually as the wind angle will increase. Strong battle for the 4th rank, where we could compare the scows Crosscall and Banque du Leman with their close contenders.

Imoca : the first 10th have arrived now, a lot of debriefing interviews here (in French and in English) :

New generation : Despite its misfortune in the Doldrums, Charal was very impressive and the overall faster of the new generation. Apivia and Advens, newly launched Verdier design, are already very close to Charal level. Arkea Paprec did good things despite its unique foil which moreover broke itself at the end, to see again with a new set of foils. Hugo Boss had a too short race to show off, also to see again with a new keel.
Previous generation, some with new foils : PRB and 11th Hour very fast in all conditions, Initiatives Cœur also but a bit less fast, MACSF abandoned very early due to a keel grounding at the first buoy, to see again. Bureau Vallée and Newrest did good things but seems not able to play the first roles.
Non foiler : Banque Populaire remarkable performance, 2nd at the exit of the Doldrums !, 6th as final rank, a no mistake race, great job from Armel Le Cleac'h and Clarisse Crémer who has now the challenge to do the same level of performance in single handed within the next Vendée Globe. Groupe Apicil and Corum did also good races up to the Doldrums, then their west option was fatal and they lost a promising top ten finish.

Class 40 : Credit Mutuel still leading by 63 NM, so quasi the same offset than 24 h ago, the first 3 leaders showing the same speed, now
    around 8-9 knots
in a beam reaching run by a fading wind . The only fact to point out is the 5th rank now catched by Banque du Leman (the new scow design by Sam Manuard), presently at 15 knots (average of the last hour).

Class 40 : impressive victory for Credit Mutuel, launched just 2 months ago, at an average 11,11 Knots (on the water). Comments and interviews here in English :

Behind, still a tight competition for the 4th rank between two "big nose" Crosscall (4th) and Banque du Leman (5th), the new Mach 40,4 design by Sam Manuard, presently faster but 10 NM behind with 80 to go.

Finally Banque du Leman succeded to catch the 4th rank and Crosscall is 5th, but from interviews it is mainly due, from Crosscall, of a lot of spis and gennaker torn from the beginning of the race. Nevertheless,
from interviews of the first 5 skippers,
it is possible to draw a consensus feeling on the "big nose" scow bow concepts :
** 5th Crosscall ("Scow bow" Lift 40 Marc Lombard design 2017) / Louis Duc : "We were the first to make a scow boat, with qualities but also defects. Credit Mutuel pushed the thing further but they erased these defects. When the sea is short, what we had between Canaries and Cape Verde, they have the same instantaneous speeds, but when they end up in the wave, they slow down less. I dreamed of doing 400 miles with this boat, it's them who did it. Well, congratulations!"
** 4th Banque du Léman ("Scow bow" Mach 40,4 Sam Manuard design 2019, just 10 days of sailing before the race !) / Simon Koster : "I think the boat really has great potential. We missed a little time but when we are beam reaching, it's beautiful. I am almost disappointed that the boat is not on the podium. We were the rookies of the transat, so fourth, it's not bad but maybe she deserved better. But there will be other opportunities"
** 3th Aina - Enfance & Avenir (Mach 40,3 Sam Manuard 2017 design, with a classic bow) / Aymeric Chappellier & Pierre Leboucher : "Credit Mutuel and Leyton were better than us, in the wind, they were indomitable .... We sometimes reduced a little too much .... the sea was short and when we nose down up to the foot of mast, it was weird .... It was very wet all the time almost .... As for Crédit Mutuel, bravo to them for having managed to sail hard the machine without breaking ... We knew that on formed sea Crédit Mutuel goes very fast. As regard top speed, she is not superior, it's just that she does not stop, she passes over the waves while we stop."
** 2nd Leyton (Idem Mach 40,3 design) Sam Goodchild and Fabien Delahaye : "Crédit Mutuel was still well positioned west. They attacked very hard very early, they deserve their place ! …. they were very fast, staggered in the west, but fast. We had periods of 24 to 36h where they were 1 to 2 knots faster …. we felt at the limit, and they never stopped, we said to ourselves, it's not normal ! They had a better wind angle with always pressure, they were always well placed compared to us. We were in a match with Aïna so at the limit regarding risk taking. In any case, we were on the attack, I think we too beat the record of 24 hours. Under 2 reefs spi (?) , it was going fast, we had days in a row in wet weather cloths with water on deck. It was crazy !"
** 1st Credit Mutuel ("Scow bow" David Raison design 2019, derived from his successful Mini 650 Magnum and Maximum) / Ian Lipinsky & Adrien Hardy : "As expected, the boat becomes magical from 25 knots of wind. It flies on the water and passes the waves without slowing down. Madintec's autopilot, the "Madbrain" , behaves as well. After coming out of the English Channel, we never helmed again, and beat the 24h record under autopilot ! This third man is also clearly a factor in this performance .... This race was held in several parts. A first quite strategic, then another pure speed where the boat showed that it was great, that it accelerated and that it never stopped. The last part, it was more cruise, it did not happen much and we had time to tidy up the boat! ... It is true that I was surprised by the speeds of the boat which were quite incredible. ... The record for the 24 hours is the boat, it was under the pilot. Between the Canaries and Cape Verde, it was straight and therefore conducive to this record."
