I divide the line in half, tie the loop end to the car, and then feed the ends of the line out to the blocks. Then back to the car's sheaves and then back out to the cam cleats.

 

it looks like I have two lines, bowline to the eye loops through the car and back out to the cam cleat!

 

The extra mechanical advantage doesn't hurt.

 

How did you make the splash boards? I'm guessing it required a table saw to get the angles right.

 

I bought some 1x6 Poplar at the Orange big box store.. used my table saw, my miter saw, jointer, router & belt sander. I used the old boards as a template and copied the angles etc from there. I put it together with stainless screws, coated it in UV stable epoxy and attached to the boat with brass nuts and bolts. I'm not gonna lie, there was some trial and error for sure I suspect many people with fewer tools could have done better work, but like I said, I think it looks good from 20 feet and should serve the purpose.

 

A jointer? The splash boards must look pretty good. I'm not sure they're "20 footers" like you said.

 

It's time for winter storage. I'll work to improve this shed to some degree, but it should get the job done.

 

There is no such thing as UV stable epoxy, contrary to claims.
Varnish the splash boards with a spar varnish.
