Electric motors and generator on board

    After some adjustments, I got a 2.5 kW from DC genset @ 48V battery. It is pretty good for me. Weight of genset and cooling system water pump is 21 kg.

    Can't test it at long work yet, because boat currently at land and water pump dry a 6 liter plastic bottle in 2-3 minutes. I don't have a water source nearby.
    I'm interested in how much cooling system effective and what fuel usage for 1 kWh of energy generated. In two weeks I hope boat will be at water and I will able to test.

    Awesome. You could just fill up the tank and charge a battery while logging the energy used to charge it. Then refilling the tank will give you kWh/Liter.

    With engine cover closed it work silently.
    fuel consumption is not optimal - 1 liter (0.22 gallons) to generate 1,5 kWh of energy. This is because I was wrong with the generator winding. Voltage of open-circuit is 90 V, but I need just 41 V to fully charge my battery. It require two times less turns and two times thicker winding wire to work at optimal mode. I will work further on this.

    My genset update: I have done a small trip at my boat over 330 km up the river: genset burned a 8 liters of fuel and produced roughly 16 kWh of energy. Over the trip it worked ok, without issues, but I decided to search a liquid cooling ICE for genset to reduce compartment temperature. Typical running day was: silent electric engine run from from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. until the whole team wakes up, then sailing, and when the wind died down, electric motor worked again. At the evening, when boat at anchorage, we run genset to fully charge engine battery (usually around 2 hours), before we go to sleep.

    Cheap ICE generator work well, it is required to run rarely (18 hours of total run for 2 month). Most of energy to charge the batteries come from solar panel and shore power. One note to ICE - it still noisy because of air cooling. I plan to change engine for generator to water-cooled one at this winter.

    This navigation showed that the hybrid propulsion is very convenient on a small-size boat. Larger boat (30 ft) with same system type will be tested at next navigation.

    Oh I just saw this. You bought a 90V generator / BLDC motor but you are going to rewind the spools? Sounds daunting. I guess you could also use two parallel wires of the thinner wires for the same effect?

    nope, for energy generation purpose it is better to do winding one thick wire. I can't explain why now, but it have better efficiency compared to multiple thinner wires.
