Chainplates - Aligned with forestay or not?

    Im planning new installation of a below deck furler but need to make a new chainplate for the forestay...but cant have any chainplate mounted in line with the forestay...like it is now. Is it possible to add a chainplate mounted 90 degree to the forestay...or does all bolts need to be aligned with the stay?

    The forestay, which I assume continues through the furler, has to land on some strong part of the structure below deck level. Generally it should be the stem, but bulkheads and knightheads have been used. Whatever is used to secure the tack end of the forestay, it must strong enough to take the breaking load of the stay. Perhaps a picture or diagram of the structure under the deck will help.
