planing help for build

    Hello. I want to build an Uffa Fox design hull, National 18 (Ace) or Jolly boat. Plans are available but I have many questions.
    #1. I want to rig it as a lug yawl so how do I figure out the balance points - sail and centerboard
    #2. I'm not going to do clinker construction with 7,000 cooper rivets so I think my construction options are glued lapstrake or strip plank/cold mold. Since the plans are from the 30's I don't know what thickness/material I should go with.

    The picture reminded me of the only large glued clinker (Lapstrake) boat project I have observed, the Ian Oughtred St Ayles skiff.
    It uses 9mm planks.
    The balance calcs are a fairly easy project for any experienced boat designer. Heck, Ian might even do them for you.
