    Quick question.

Do most people apply a neat coat of epoxy prior to fairing and let it go to gel time?

Or for something like Quick Fair or an epoxy balloon aerosol mix do you just apply the mix to a clean surface?

Depends on the porosity of substrate. Minimal advantage to neat coating a non-porous base. Porous substrates ought to be sealed prior to fairing. A layer of neat epoxy could also be utalized as an osmotic barior coat.

An extra coat of epoxy usually doesn't hurt. Some think of it as insurance. It does cut into the weight, time and cost budgets.

How does adding more resin cut the weight and cost? I think it only adds to them.

    Budgets.. cuts into the budgets..

    I did some impact testing.

I discovered that a hand laminated panel is damaged more than a vac panel by the same impact. Nail gun no nail.

Gonzo-Do you think any hard exterior shell is better or worse or adds little versus paint?

This would be for typical impacts a hull may experience like a fishing jig hitting it or a wrench...
