Hadn't seen those particular rudders-what do you think of their effectiveness? Thanks for the picture!

Quite no winds for now and the next 3-4 hours at least, the Imoca's fleet is in a complete mess, the previous leaders like Charal have lost all their advantage. That is a chance for Acipil (Damien Seguin, Yoann Richomme) : after their brilliant start leading the fleet, they ran aground on a sandbar, showing to the followers where not to go. They stayed there more than hour, and finally retarted 17 NM behind the fleet. But now, they did a complete recovery, rejoining with the fleet completely stopped.

The new Arkea Paprec had an electric black out, they are forced to abandon and are heading Port La Forêt. But they showed before a good potential : 6th at the Fastnet rock, not bad for a boat launched just 10 days ago. Sure that they will be seriously prepared for the next Jacques Vabre in October (before there is also the défi Azimuth in September, useful to compare the speed potentials).
Charal / Jérémie Beyou still leading but, not far are some serious contenders, inc. non foiler Banque Pop / Armel Le Cleac'h and Clarise Cremer

Impressive the look of the new "Boss" , you guess the speed in the streamline shape !

Sum-up of the 8 new Imoca's generation in view the next Vendée Globe 2020, not to mention the olders but refit and with efficient foils, like PRB which finished second to the Fastnet Race with reporting top speed over 30 knots (in the debriefing here below), by chronological order :
CHARAL - Jérémie Beyou - VPLP - August 2018 (Winner of the Fastnet Race)
ARKEA PAPREC - Sébastien Simon - Kouyoumdjian - July 2019 (6th at Fastnet Rock, then abandoned due to electrical issue)
APIVIA Mutuelle - Charlie Dalin - Verdier - July 2019 (but too late to participate to the Fastnet Rock)
HUGO BOSS - Alex Thomson - VPLP - August 2019
TR RACING - Thomas Ruyant - Verdier - August 2019 (from the prototype built by Persico for the new VOR formula)
L'OCCITANE - Armel Tripon - Sam Manuard - September 2019 (First Imoca design for Manuard, well known for his Mini 650 and Seascape (now beneteau First) designs)
DMG MORI - Kojiro Shiraishi - VPLP - September 2019
    CORUM L'EPARGNE - Nicolas Troussel - Kouyoumdjian - Feb. 2020

Next event to follow is Defi AZIMUT Imoca, 18-22 Sept. Lorient, interesting for the confrontation of the new Imocas launched this summer (Arkea Paprec, Apivia, Advens for cybersecurity (imminent launch ?), Hugo Boss participation ? ) with Charal and the previous Imoca generation but usually upgraded with new foils.
