Gel coat/Epoxy fibreglass cloth construction

    Using a canoe mould, is it possible to gel coat it with polyester gel coat and then hand lay up using fibreglass cloth and epoxy resin to make a lighter canoe. What would that fibreglass cloth be - double bias? What gsm would it be and how many layers? Would the epoxy/fibreglass delaminate from the gel coat? Your thoughts? The canoe is 14' long x 4' wide x 17" high.

    I am not sure but here's what I think.

    From what I understand of epoxy if you put down a layer of the epoxy before the cloth (which you would do with fiberglass) then coted the back side of the cloth with another layer of epoxy and continue with aplying the layers of epoxy while the previous layer is tacky your canoe will be strong and should not delaminate at all.

    Poly gelcoat isnt really compatible with epoxy, how about painting it when finished- should be even lighter.
