Re post #345: "mazout" in the song isn't Dutch but Flemish, it comes from the Russian "мазут", which is "mazut" in English, a "heavy fuel oil of low quality", and meant to say "fuel oil in general" in Flanders, which is "stookolie" in Dutch.

"Mazout" is also used as the name for a "Beer and Cola mix", which is called "Broadway" in English, and "Diesel" in German.

    "Diesel" labels on catawiki —

Also can mix the beer and cola yourself, like some do with imported beer plus licensed coke in Japan...

Or maybe better not do it at all...

I've just posted the above song somewhere else on these forums, Budget long range cruiser fit for Pacific crossing - Ideas ? in post #61, but I would swear he's actually Ben Rumson, who was played by Lee Marvin in Paint Your Wagon in 1969, and for sure Peter was also born under such a Wand'rin' Star, so he just has to keep stationary for his imaginary travels...

Allas the B side by Clint is too bad for posting here, since he actually tries to sing, which the magnificent Lee doesn't, but just talks along the melody, and so made a big hit out of Wand'rin' Star . . :)

Evelyn said ‘‘ Dave, play Misty for me ! ’’

And so as a disk jockey he played Erroll Garner's Misty for her, maybe the version as performed in the BRT studios in Brussels, Belgium

Oh well, radio disc jockey Dave worked in 1971 from Carmel by the Sea Ca located ± 83 NM south as the bird flies from Peter's anchorage off Sausalito Ca since 1983 !

Love a spot of Bob Dylan - thanks Angel.
From when the ship comes in to when the boat comes in. This was the theme of a successful British TV series 'When the boat comes in'

There are a lot of posts here and I may have missed it but I don't see anything from Stan Rogers. He was always my absolute favorite regarding songs about the sea and ships. Here's one of my favorites.......

Thanks, everyone, for the wonderful contributions to this thread.
White Squall was a helluva good movie starring Jeff Bridges.

It's been 25 years since Tom Petty's Wildflowers album was released.

For those in peril on the sea, and of Christian faith...

I've heard¹ a Dutch version² of this hymn³ was sung this Sunday morning (Dec. 1 - 2019) in several churches on the former isle of Urk, and their prayers were send up that the bodies of two lost fishermen would be found and recovered...

¹ on Dutch Radio 1 on Sunday Dec. 1 - 2019, ± 23:14 ~ 23:21 hour CET (mp4), not sung there, the song was only mentioned.

² ‘‘ O eeuw'ge Vader, sterk in macht ’’ hymn 467 in the 1973 Dutch Songbook for Churches.

³ ‘‘ Eternal Father, Strong to Save’’ aka ‘‘ The Navy Hymn ’’ in 1860 written by the British poet William Whiting.

²‘‘ O eeuw'ge Vader, sterk in macht ’’ (below recorded in the Ichthus church on Urk on Friday november 20 - 2015, at a Urk sings event)

End of Sunday morning (Dec. 1 - 2019) came the news that the Dutch Navy and Coast Guard had found and retrieved their bodies from the wheelhouse of the on the early morning of Thursday (Nov. 28 - 2019) in bad weather sunken UK-165 Lummetje (UK registration = Urk).

    some Dutch links

UK-165 Lummetje sunk on the early morning of Thursday november 28 - 2019, only an automatic EPIRB signal was received.

No cause known yet in the news, only speculation.

Neil Peart, drummer for Rush, died Tuesday, January 7th 2020.

This instrumental was originally subtitled "Part IV: 'Gangster of Boats' Trilogy" on the Roll the bones album.
