Not really. Its a sure bet that the boat builder never intended its arch to be used to support the backstay and rigging. That means it won't be engineered or suitable for that. Yes OP could fabricate himself up a new aft superstructure, but he'd be a fool to do so without professional help.

The load on the backstay is moderate. Unless we see a photo and some specifications for the arch, it is impossible to claim whether the arch was engineered for the loads or not. Many boats use arches for installing the traveller out of the way and other structural applications.

I think the OP has run away . . .

I agree with the consensus . . . not the best idea. The key difference to me is attaching the backstay to an arch as described then puts thousands of ft-lbs. of torque on the arch. Surely an arch could be designed to handle such load, but that is probably not what the OP has . . . I'm thinking that the base of the arch would have to be quite wide and have lots of structure to it.

A picture or 2, as @gonzo mentioned, sure would help the discussion.

That's common unfortunately. People pop in here and when they don't get the answer they wanted, they disappear with a huff.

We can just look for the Ericson 39 with the busted radar arch . . . :D
