Canoe with square bottom hull vs rounded hull

    Surely this is not possible to achieve? A square bottomed boat will have BWL = Beam whereas for a round one BWL < Beam. Also for the same "top view" and depth (profile) surely the square bottom must have greater displacement?

    The square sided is as you say and the round bottom doesn't become round until below the waterline.

    Okay I guess that solves the first paradox but not the second.

    If the beams are equal, the displacement can be made equal by varying the hull depth below the waterline in the y plane.

    Sure, I guess I wouldn't consider that to be the same profile.
