My suggestion would be to drift the Polarstern around Antarctica to meet the polar pod's research goals, might add some wind turbines and batteries for the internal energy usage instead of running the diesel gensets during the drift expedition, just to green wash the image a bit . . . .

The whole concept of the Polar Pod is poorly thought out for a two years drift trip around Antarctica, at least as described on their website...

    ‘‘ photovoltaic cells ’’

Photovoltaic cells aren't of any use in the dark southern winter, and if they can do without them in winter, then they don't need them in summer, it's just like the lack of installed power for the fake electric emergency propulsion which they think to have, what the heck is the famous polar explorer Jean-Louis Etienne thinking where he wants to go this time . . ? ?
