    I've wondered why the rudder foils are so far forward and I just noticed a picture above that shows the windward foil touching the water even with the boat heeled. Combine that with what Vincent Prevost said in the "Dynamic Lift.." thread* and it might be

    possible that they are considering using Sodebos rudders for differential lift-maybe instead of using a daggerboard lifting foil. However, the daggerboard foil contributes a lot to pitch control so I don't know.Here are the two best shots of the new rudder which is not retractable:

    This picture is a result of my brain fade-it s the old boat! But using rudder differential on the new boat for RM is a distinct possibility!

    That's different!

    My guess would be for structural reasons. Closer to the crossbeam.

    Structural reasons is definitely part of it since the downforce load will be gigantic on the windward rudder foil.......
