Hello all, I've been using this forum for years on ideas for a boat build(finally have time and space to start it)I've searched the forums for this issue of mine to no avail..im looking to do a wood dayboat classic 50's style but havi g dilemma with powertrain..i have looked at outboard, stern drives.but really want an inboard setup just for ease of maintenance and the fact I'm wanting to use a industrial diesel horizontal shaft engine($$$cheap) maintence.question is I'm looking at 10hp maybe 15.but am unable to find a fnr gearbox for such application.i know comet has a go kart trans but longevity is a ?? I have no answer for.already figured the 2:1 reduction and yes noise issue has been addressed.this is not a powerboat but merely a cruise somewhat fuel efficient design I'm working on.if nothing else I seen ways to hide an outboard keeping the clean stern look.and also have found 3 mercruiser 165 stern drives at local junkyard...but would love not to have that extra weight of a anchor but reliable straight 6..any help:)

If i remember, zf6 is around $1200.00 but you have to go i think zf25 min if you want something reliable or medium duty (takes you up to $1,700.00 range).
Persons with that type of tranny had them blow up even motoring maybe 3hrs. They are strictly for pleasure use and manufacturer will not replace

Hm those are what I need but man 1700 for something that might break fast haha.although they say pleasure use only under 1500 hrs a year and use at partial throttle majority of time which will be my case..maybe I can find used somewhere...

I actually think it was the zf25 that needed to be upgraded to the zf60. I think twindisc is a better make for the same application and about same prices. I ll find the model no.

It was zf6 or zf10 which might work work well if under pitched and propped but go over and it fails. They had to go to a zf15 as they were about 30hp, right under manufacturers recommendation.

Twinsisc makes tmc40 for upto 35hp $1,200.00, tmc60 upto 68hp $1,700.00. You most likely will be ok with either manufacturer as your max hp is 15hp
