Carbon Fiber Laminate

I've been looking at Thomas Hill's "Long Point" and wondering if I can achieve the same stiffness in a flat bottom boat by using carbon fiber cloth? If I was to laminate carbon fiber cloth in between 2 layers of 3/8" ply would I achieve the same results as Long Point's 1.5" bottom? I like what TH has done with the "Long Point", it has no structural faming across the bottom, this leaves the boat clean and the weight of the crew is as low as possible.

 

No! Plate stiffness is a function of the thickness. The third power of thickness in fact. CF in the center will add almost nothing to the stiffness because it will be in the neutral axis of the assembly. . If the CF is placed on the outside of the two 3/8 plies, there will be an increase in stiffness but will not equal the rigidity of the 1.5 inch bottom.
