Hi there so many people that post questions and want answers to quite difficult things that their written descriptions are sometimes almost impossible to follow the gist of what they really want .
If by some slim chance they do post a picture it mostly has very little or no detail pertaining to the subject or it taken from the window of a passing plane !! So time gets wasted going round and round and back and forward trying to determine what they really want and how to answer .
If there are no pictures at all it just about impossible and even Sherlock and his cobber would be scratching there heads .

Pictures with detail are a god send, lets us see what you are trying to repair or what the problem is!! Not just one but a few pictures to show different angles of the subject.
If the boat is in the water some good close shots again with detail and reference places to compare angles the boat is floating etc etc

You get a sensible quick answer with clever suggestions to overcome your problem !! :)

I second you all the way!
It would be nice to have some sticky notes at the beginning of each forum section to help posters provide the proper information.

Even myself I find it's hard to describe and put into words an absolute detailed description of things. And when dealing with people where English is a second language it's even harder for them to give a clear picture of there problems! But with some good picture the problems become much easier to answer .

WHO HAS FOUND A REALLY EASY WAY OF POSTING PICTURES ??
    ANY ONE ??

I HAVE A PHOTO RESIZING PROGRAM AND SO I COPY AND PASTE PICTURES INTO A FOLDER AND THEN REDUCE THEIR SIZE SO THEY LOAD IN A FRACTION OF THE TIME !!, THEN SET THAT FOLDER ON MY DESK TOP SO ITS EASY TO FIND

THEN I CLICK ON THE PAPER CLIP HERE ON THIS SECTION AT THE TOP CLOSE TO THE SMILEY FACE AND WHEN IT OPENS I GET TO MY DESK TOP FROM THERE AND OPEN THE FOLDER AND EXSTRACT THE PICTURES I WANT TO POST. IT'S SIMPLE WORKS EVERY TIME AND NEVER FAILED YET !!
    ANYONE ELSE TRIED THAT ??

Most folks are looking for answers to things they don't understand, so it's understandable that they often don't provide the information needed. I also think they're not going to go through sticky threads to see how to phrase questions, though they might if trying to post images.

I don't have trouble posting images. I try to keep them less then 2,000 pixels, so they fit the screen and there are several easy ways to resize images.

Good suggestion, but in the absence of a scanner to make a picture out of a free-hand drawing, what is the best program to draw a line drawing with ? Word ?

Probably Paint if you lack anything else. If you just need a small sketch to clarify things, it works ok for me. Also I use IrfanView to resize and compress images.

I'd also like to add that the topic title is sometimes not very clear - something like "Help!" or similar makes only little sense if you want people to get to help you.

Paint is a joke and about useless. Corel Draw would be my recommendation, though a bit pricy if you just want to play, there are demo versions you can download free. DrawPlus is still free and though a little clumsy and buzy, compared to real drawing programs, workable for the occasional sketch. Xara Photo & Graphic Designer gets high marks for it's options. SketchBook is another.

When it comes to free-hand drawings, may I suggest a very simple method of posting them, which I often use?
    1) Make your free-hand drawing on the paper, which is the quickest and the most natural way we've been given.
    2) Take a pic of it with your tablet pc, smartphone, a cell phone or a digital camera
    3) If you took the pic with a smartphone or a tablet pc, then use it to connect to BD.net forum and upload the pic. As simple as that!
    4) if you took it with an older cell phone or a digital camera, then upload the pic to your pc and then from the pc to BD.net. After which, go and buy a smartphone! :p
An example is attched below. Took me 2 minutes to take this pic and upload it with an iphone. ;)

    Cheers

    PS:
A note for DCockey: yes, I know the formulas in the pic are incomplete or wrong, I just took a photo of a random messy sketch I had on the table for illustration purposes. :p

Well Slavi, I cannot determine whether or not your formulas are wrong and neither can DCockey. But the beam and forces on it I do see.

I use Coreldraw because I am familiar with it, if I want to draw a box I get what I want. If I did it by hand people might think it is a graph of my heart rate or a funny landscape.
When satisfied I export it to *.jpg, note a mistake, go back to the *.cdr then export it again etc. Sometimes I think Why am I doing this? and decide not to post at all.

Paint.net is free open source software, it's about the best thing you'll get without paying for Photoshop. I mostly use PS6 but I still find myself using paint.net for easy things.

For whatever reasons, I detest the windows 10 paint version, earlier ones were more user friendly to my thinking.

No paint and paint.net is different. Paint.net is an open source software made to compete to Photoshop as Photoshop's high price tag was a huge deterrent for new comers.
