Riding Sail Area/Design

    There are many different designs for these and I am currently leading towards the findelta/wedge design shape as there is not much space between the boom and backstay and this seems the most efficient of the design shapes. .

    Does anyone know how to calculate the sail area for any of the designs, or where to start?

    The CE will (hopefully!) be behind the boats putting the nose into the wind, but the actual area needed does not relate to a righting/heeling moment as per working sail design and I am not au fait with any directional stability calcs. Obviously existing windage and boat weight will play there part in the calcs.

    I am thinking of looking into wind turbine vane research but I fear these might not apply to a larger scale.
