Formulas and ratios used to start the preliminary (basic design) of sailing or motor yacht.

    Dear everyone,

Wish you all a happy new year and all the best in your boat design activities! :)

Working for myself at home, as a hobby, I started exploring the process of preliminary yacht design. Idea was to find some spreadsheet or procedure (or colection of formulae) that would help me define the main dimensions of new project (length, beam, draft, displacement, resistance estimation, sail dimensions, center of buoyancy, center of gravity, Cb, ...) upon few input parameters , something similar to what we use to do as a practical task in preliminary ship design of merchant ships at the university.

The only one I came across with is preliminary calculation for catamarans, attached.

If anyone has any experience, spreadsheets or formula in written, for both sailing monohulls and motor yachts, speedboats ... I would be very thankfull if you could share it with me.

    Many thanks!!

    Best,

    Tomislav
