    Hi,

Just got a Johnson 1985 vro outboard, the fro has been bypassed and I have put a new fuel pump on it. When I first start it it goes straight away and runs like a dream. When I stop however sometimes I have to wait 10 minutes for it to fire again. There is heaps of spark and compression. I’m wondering if it’s flooding somehow? Maybe the red switch is incorrectly placed. Any help is good help! Thanks all.

It won’t run correctly with the red switch in the wrong position.

Some old carb’d motor don’t start easily right after shutting them down, the warm soak evaporates the fuel out of the carb

Pumping the bulb and using the choke (primer) even on a warm motor is what’s needed sometimes. At times you may need to hold the primer on and squeeze the bulb a couple of times.

Yes, squeeze the primer bulb a few times after it has been idle for a while, and if it then fires up immediately, you will know it is a problem with fuel delivery.
