Benford design, I am impressed!

I was not aware of the designer Mr. Benford. I have been looking at boat plans for quite a while now and never heard of him.

After finding the Benford Dory "Badger" I started looking at his numerous plans. I am very impress with his work.

I really like the Benford 30 line up. Anybody know how they sail? Does someone has one of this version?

He also has some awsome powerboat plan. Liveaboard, Ferry, Tug, Coaster. But the Coaster not too sure about it!!!

Why don't we hear more about Benford design???

 

Your previous crush was on a sharpie which has quite a different draft and seaworthiness, it might be helpful to write a SOR (Statement of Requirements), and then look at designs from that point of view.

Actually first was : Sharpie, Dutch Tjalk, Catboat, bach to Sharpie, back to catboat, once in a while deep draft cutter rig. Then a a cruising tug boat, or a Devlin motorsailer, like Oysta. Back ta a Tad Robert design. then back to a Ruel Parker Yawl 43, Then lately Benford 30 but with a modified keel!!!!

Hahahaha, while I can't make my mind I practice drawing sailboat on my computer with Fusion 360.

But my intellect tells me that it os smarter to build a boat from a reputable naval architect than from my own plan, for resale value.

But the smarter move would be to buy a plastic fantastique boat on the used market, Kelt 8.5! Big enought for a family for the week end. Bigger for travelling would be a Morgan outisland center cockpit.

Life is hard!!!!

Look at these little Ferry design by Jay Benford!!! They are awsome and really cool looking... That is a good design with outside of the box thinking.

 

From your threads I think a Kelt 850 indeed would suit your rational needs, but besides fulfilling those rational necessities a pleasure craft also needs to make you happy, if that ain't the case then she's not the right boat for you.

A lot of Kelt 850's have the vinyl ceiling comming down, and are cheap for that reason, and are so an opportunity for those who want to do DIY repair...
