I recently purchased a 2018 Scout 177 Sport boat. I have installed a new Minn Kota Terrova Riptide 24 volt trolling motor.
I have three batteries on board (2 for the trolling motor and 1 for the outboard motor electrical system and wanted a good charging solution. I ordered a Minn Kota MK315D digital charger. At first i was going to try and install it on the boat but found limited space and also the manufacturer recommended adequate ventilation. A friend on mine suggested that I not mount it permanently on the boat. I thought about it for a while and this is what I came up with. See Link.

I LOVE this charger. best money I have spent in a while. It will charge 3 batteries at a time and also maintain them. It will also turn the charging circuit(s) off when they reach the recommended voltage and not overcharge your batteries. The batteries can also be of different types. The charger analyzes each battery when plugged in and applies the recommended charge. When the batteries reach the required voltage the charger turns off and goes into a monitoring mode checking voltage and if it decides a particular battery(s), any of the the three, requires additional charging it automatically turns on and gives it the necessary charge and then turns off. Now all the batteries are ready to go fishing anytime!

The nice thing about my innovative retrofit is that the charger is now portable and and you can take it anywhere and charge batteries, i.e. car, lawnmower etc. I even made a suitable adapter cable utilizing Powerpole connectors (not the shallow water anchor company) with alligator clips on the end for use with all types of batteries. The nice thing about the Powerpole connectors is that they can easily be configured to maintain polarity. No more hooking stuff up backwards. They also offer color coded housings in several different colors.

I am super happy with this project and the way it turned out. Being able to charge all on board batteries and also use as portable battery charger is the cats MEOW.
