Should I adapt my 228 Mercruiser to my Ford 351 or replace the blown 350

In a nutshell my friend has a 351/omc800 with blown stern drive. He also has a working 228 Mercruiser mated to a blown Chevy 350. The stern drive is a pre alpha "R" vintage.

    A. Replace the Chevy and put the entire power train in.?

    B. Adapt the Merc stern drive to the Ford?

You will need a bellhousing, motor mounts and may be able to adapt the exhaust.

Thanks gonzo.. You mentioned bellhousing so you think mating the merc with his existing Ford 351 is the way to go. Why then do we need motormounts... ?

The motormounts on the sides of the block need to be for a Ford.

If you replace the GM for a Ford, the mounts on the sided of the block need to be replaced too. That is for option B. The rear mounts are part of the bellhousing.
