Fiat/Iveco/Aifo...These engines come in several capacities as inline 6-es. In order to identify this individual, you have to give some main dimensions. It's not clear if it is turbocharged or not, but engines from 8 liters and upwards have divided valve covers, like the one in the pics.

In one pic, there is something looking like a turbounit lying beneath the block, which might indicate it is a series 8300 Engine. If so, we are talking about some 180 to 190 hp @ 2200 rpm.

Generally speaking, these are good engines and you will find them in tugs, fishing vessels etc (and of course in a great number of trucks). The back-side is that the manufacturer has not been very good at building a support chain for marine service. But if there is a truck workshop around your corner, they will be able to keep any of the mechanically injected Fiat engines running. Spares are reasonably prized, compared with some others.

I have been running a 6 liter Iveco (165 hp) in our workboat for many years and it just keeps humming on.

Tomorrow I will insert more photos. Owner informed me that he thinks that it has 250 hp.

Fiat Aifo 8361 SRM comes in a variety of rated powers, ranging from 200 to 400 HP in light duty. There should be two more numbers after letters SRM, which indicate the power of that engine - like SRM 21, or SRM32 or SRM 40.

In that case you should assume that it is a 1980 or 1990 model, rated either 240 HP or 270 HP. Stay on the safe side and assume 240 HP.

It was a preferred engine for small patrol vessels of the Italian Coast Guard, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza built in the 80s. Very robust and reliable if maintained properly.

Yup, that's pretty close; the version with the square intercooler aft of the block is the older one. It seems possible to read the engine number, and the Iveco factory would certainly identify this engine for you.

Fuel consumption on any engine is related to tghe HP required.

You can figure 15 -16 HP per gallon of fuel,

however, if you happen to set it up right , the real consumption will be a bit better.

I doubt you will find that data anymore, and it would not be reliable anyways, considering the age of the engine.

Modern electronically-controlled diesel engines commonly consume 0.18-0.20 l/h per HP, some even less. The new, modernized 8361 SRM consumes 0.18 l/h per HP in medium duty - see the attached chart.

Considering the age of your engine, the heavy-weight displacement and construction, as well as the fact that it is of the all-mechanical type, I would stay on the safe side and assume at least 0.22-0.23 l/h per HP.

Hello guys, I've found this thread because i'm looking for parts for my old fiat aifo 806 originally installed in 1979 and i'm having a real hard time, i've tried mechanics and shops in many different countries and have not been able to find any leads. I'm sorry for not contributing to the discussion here. My engine boat has been working terrificly well and now with 14.000 hours need to go through its first overhaul as it has never been touched this way before. If i cant find the parts i'll be obliged to replace the engine which is a nightmare i would not like to go through, i'd really appreciate if someone could give me any leads either replying here or sending me an email at xaliba@gmail.com. It doesn't matter the country the parts would be in as long as i can find them. Any leads in finding the parts would be much appreciated. Thank you very much!!!
