So the deck would be 12' long on 16' hulls?

What kind of foam are you planning on? I'm going to suggest the typical blue or pink insulation board will give you very little benefit in stiffness almost nothing in strength.

 

Yes, 12' long on 16 foot hulls. I was thinking five 1 x 2's on their edge, long ways on the plywood sheets, using one foot centers with foam between them. And I was thinking blue or pink Home Depot type foam. What type foam would you use? and where would you get it?

 

I would use something like Core-cell or Divynicell.
Much more expensive, but it will actually make the sandwich stiffer and structural.

Or I would use a wood stiffened grid under thicker plywood. Single sided - not a sandwich.

Depending upon the size of the hulls, you are going to find you will sink the bow or stern of the boat a great deal if you are standing close to the fore or aft edge of the deck.
Your motor is going to weight down the aft end and sink it also.

If you look at the picture of the Tornado hulled boat (the white one) you can see how that designer moved the motor forward a lot.
I'm suggesting a smaller deck, centered on the length of the hulls. Or a little more aft of the bow.

 

The motor I have been looking at weighs 81 pounds. Making a shorter deck would not be a problem and also be cheaper and lighter. I am open to all ideas and will use them while being thankful for the help. If you have other idea's other than the don't do it type, I'll sure listen. Other than the motor, I don't think it is going to cost much and will keep me busy for a lot of hours.

I looked at the core-cell and for enough to do two sheets it is more than the cost of the motor.

 

There is no question in my mind you can do it.
It's just a questions of getting the best you can for your effort. And money.

On other forums I’ve encountered a bit of jeering even aggression when my ideas for boats were not traditional enough.
However I just started a thread asking about an SOF Row Sail Motor Micro Cruiser design.

There is not a forum existing which doesn't have such responses.
This one is relatively mild.
Just talk facts and those who are interested in ideas will respond.
It takes some amount of toughness to participate, since everyone is free to say anything they want, no matter how irritating or useless.

Of course, you need to listen to actual facts - if presented.
