Well submersible motor for electric drive

Anybody ever tried to use a submersible motor, the one used for submersible pump. Like the Grundfos MS motor. Would just need to fabricate an adaptor to install the propeller.

Note that they are 2-pole motors, ie running at ~2900 rpm (50 Hz). Shaft rpms too high for direct drive propeller in the bigger power range, but ok for less than 10 Hp.

 

In the manual they talk about 4 poles but youbare right at work we only get 2 poles.

2 poles 3450 rpm on 60hz
4 poles 1800 rpm on 60hz

Maybe I should call Grundfos to ask if they have 4 poles motor available.

 

Besides adapting a propeller, you will need to supply it with 3 phase 220 or 440 Volts. High voltage in a wet environment is something you need to design and maintain very carefully.

You are 100% right and this is pretty much true for most system on a boat.

Elco motor I believe use high voltage 3 phase AC motor.

My question is more to know if anybody tried it. It just seams that pretty much everything was tried, therefore there might be someone that tried it.

 

Maybe also ask if they also have submersible DC motors . . ?
