    Hi All.

Noob here with a research question that I am hoping someone might be able to help me with.

A group of friends and I recently sighted a replica ships figurehead in a pub. We asked the barman and he said it was "Lady Anne" (Or Lady Ann, I am not sure), but had no other information. I have spent a few hours already on this question and I don't know if I have lost my researching skills, but I have not been able to come up with an answer.

Does anyone know who this lady Anne might be? To see examples of who I am referring to, please use this as a google search ""lady anne ship's figurehead".

She is always modelled with :
    - A blue dress and elbow length white gloves / lace gloves
    - A tiara / crown
    - She is 'saluting' or more likely 'looking out'

Any help greatly appreciated. Its a rare experience to be bested by a research question, but this one seems to have me by the short and curleys.

    Alan

Hi Alan, welcome to the forum . . :)

They make those figurehead replicas of fiberglass nowadays, so they're easy to reproduce once a mold has been made.

    Here's a series of various types, approx 3' (0.914 m) tall...

The above linked sales site says Ann and not Anne, but then they also misspell Britannia as Brittania, so my guess is your figurehead darling is really called Anne.

BTW, quite a decent pub that they didn't show you the Britannia figurehead . . ;)

Maybe you have to look at; - Queen Anne's Revenge - & - Anne, Queen of Great Britain - for a bit of history...

Ann or Anne could be one of several and it really doesn't matter all that much. She's "looking out", as a salute would be with the right hand and in a wholly different position for the British.

It's likely she's not Queen Anne, who wasn't the most lovely thing about, though maybe lady Anne or Ann the busty bar maid, the carver had in mind when he whittled 'er up.
