    Hi ,(everybody)

I dont know if the forum find this is not to the boat design subject, but I have bought 6 Ha of mangrove land that is by the river leading to the sea approx. 3 Km. The river itself is 8M deep.

My desire set up is to build land vehicle park space of 200 cars, an office and maintance building with 2 power generator ( small and big ), communal bathroom and shower for ladies and gent seperated ( with lockers ), Fence running the land parameter plus trench amd lighting. 2 source of freshwater, underground filter and govt. utility supplied water. Gonna sell fuel from fuel tank truck that standby.

    Now my question are :

    1. I would like to use western STD for building the Marina bcause most of my
customer will be Expat community, where can I get these standard
    from........?

    2. Wood walk way is good slip free , but someone make me consider other
alternative like Ferro cement walkway........ What the view?

    3. If I use plank and wood can i offically use recyle stuff like plastic or metal
    sealed barrels?

    4. Have anybody covered on the subject of mooring system for marina
    intensively?

    5. How much power electricity I need for the set up?

    6. What are the danger that I would want to know in Marina and things I
need to consider before venturing in making the facilities?

    7. Is there books on the building ,design and facilities in Marina?

    8. What radio or electric equipment I need beside 11 M and 2M band? to be
    able to respond?

    9. Do I need a tug boat to pull or cater the Marina needs?

    10. I heard most foreign boat have special electricity couple and water transfer hose?
What kind and STD theyr using?

    11. What equipment can I make myself and what vital equipment I would have to buy from professional vendor?

    12. Any info on running a Marina on policy and law?

I take great respect and care to inquiry because this would mean responsibility in part that a lot of people would trust me with their boats and safety within my Marina compund.

I will give thanks for anybody beforehand for seriously help and answer my questions on this topic.

    Thanks

May I suggest a consulting text:
Ernest & Peter NEUFERT, "Architect's Data" (electronic PDF version, v.3.0, available on internet) it's full of normative, dimensioning & construction details.

    Marina..oh Marina..

:) Wally , the marina at my home port use ferocement pontoon walkway..If you buy it readymade maybe it will be costly- imported into Indonesia but if you construct it your own..with the labour cost that you have there..it will be very cheap. The one at Langkawi Jetty Kuah are made of plastic pontoon, real easy to asssemble..just connect it, there is even a swimming pool made of this pontoon in one very deep lake in Langkawi, installed it right in the lake the place named Dayang Bunting Island. If you use wooden walkway the problem is with the high and low tide..it can be very slippery to step on those algae grown steps during low tide..Unless you use floating logs or bamboo raft as the walk way.At our fresh water dam area it is common practice to use bamboo raft or floating logs as the float for houses. If you are interested to have a look at our marina in Port Dickson..just mail me..Sutera harbour in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah might be closer to you anyway..:)

    Ari,

Thanks, ferro-cement waz one of my option until............. I found fiberglass walkway. Trying to buy the mold and mass produce it. Maybe more ethical design of my own fiber-glass walkway with built in optic light?

Of course I cant copy other peoples' work but I can design my own combination of wood but with fiberglas on top for anti-slip surface.........

Aluminium walkway only for rich guys.

I would wanna see the marina in your port, if u have the time to digital snap shot and post it in this post I would appriciate it........Thanks

    The Container stack building

    ok

The club house and restaurant would be builded by stacked container but retained the centre hall for reception or pool table. The outside appearance is ok. This is the type of building I thinking of but maybe ext the no. of container to 10 unit.( more space). Cheap...... used container is now 3-4 millions rupiah, have it sandblasted and paint.......... stcked and srew and have a roof on it.

Sounds like you are trying to design and build the whole thing yourself. That would not be possible in the USA because of all the regulations and standards.

In the USA you would need environmental impact studies, permission from several government agencies, a civil engineer, an architect, and in the end hundreds (perhaps thousands) of people would be involved in one way or another.

Good luck, looks like an interesting project.

    Hi kach22i,

This is Indonesia East-Kalimantan where river full of villager and boat mooring without government permission. For now, I am aware of the ecosystem and the impact of the project to the surrounding.

The land for phase I is 1 Ha for opening up to moor boat and small yacht. I dont think big ship wanna put it at my place. I am doing the place a deed by orderly pack the vessel so the river is more safe from accident, security for boat is better mean less crime,( more girls enjoy hanging by the boat mean less spending more action ), more job for the area, opening up area so land price is rising. I think overall this will be a good thing. The town planner have no problem the marina is there.( my dockyard is nearby....... mean quick help is not far away )

I am not goin to build mall or hotel........ just a place to hang around with friends and drink up the booze.......... The expat here deserve better...... their bored to death...... he..........:D :D :D :D :D ( I am using back my smilies)

The Town development council have agree to the Marina.......... I am in green zone for building not red zone for govt. future mapping. Phew....... Know the document will take 3 month. All seem in order. If only I can take the place and my service to better level.( I used to work in a 4 star Hotel.... )

P.S. Here some pic of concrete Flotatio System from Shoreside Marinas

    Welly,

I've worked as a coastal engineer for the last 10 years. I am also a conservative and ecologist so I'd say no to building in any mangrove area. These areas are estuaries for juvenile fish and other sea critters. You destroy the environment when you destroy mangroves.

Usually mangroves grow in muck. You’d have to determine the depth of the muck and the condition of the soils below the muck before you begin dredging. You need to plan to have a temporary place upland to dry out the muck before you bury it. You cannot dump muck offshore, it’s a pollutant.

Next you will need to determine what kind of boats that you are catering to. What is the typical length, width and draft.

Next you will need to decide if you want floating docks or fixed. Both are feasible and can be competitive in cost.

Next you need to determine your budget. How much can you afford to spend? If budget is low, start off with a small main pier with limited amenities. After you get set up and have established income that you can add on.

Here in the states a good quality marina with all amenities will cost between US$ 25,000 to $35,000 per slip. A cheap marina in the Caribbean can be as cheap as $8,000 per slip.

Dredging is very costly as well. Here you can expect to pay a minimum of $10 per cubic yard up to $50 per yard depending on the size of the job, and type of material being dredged.

There are a lot of things to consider when building a marina and in your case the currents will cause erosion when you remove the mangroves. This will have to be considered for your revetments and or perimeter walls around the marina.

I recommend that you hire a professional coastal engineer to assist you in your project. You will need a good survey and field studies to confirm the environmental issues (like erosion and soil holding capacity).

Be careful or you can end up (like many project that I’ve seen in the Caribbean) with a project that is unusable and a huge waste of money. Maintenance can be a big issue and also “life safety” could cost you everything if someone should die due to flaws in your design.

Good luck and I hope you have a good attorney.

    Jed
