I am about to rebuild my Nacra 5.5 to single hander as I also have a 6.0 for two. To make it work you need ta add ca 400mm/side.

The existing beams are in very good shape, so extending them seems like an idea. With the help of thickwall aluminium 100x6mm tubing, that is turned down to 97,6mm in one end you can slide them into the existing beam ends. As the beam has a trampoline groove you have to slot the insert, but this is not so bad as it prevents torsion.

As I want the mod reversible, epoxi and rivets are out of the question.

Has anyone tried something like this before?

The simple sketch is for the front beam.

If you want a reversible mod, buy 100 x 3mm aluminium 6061 T6 tube (used for spinaker poles) . It comes up to 6 m length.
You can built new beams to the desired length. I used this solution on my Strike 20 Trimaran which has Nacra 5.8 hulls as outriggers (5.1 m beam). instead of aluminium or Stainless steel flat plate for the
dolphin striker, you can use vectran lines. So you keep your old beams to reverse !

    Hi,
I actually built a pair of 3.2m beams for a pair of 6.0 hulls I recently bought, see att. Built the front beam of 100x2mm with slotted 100x3mm inserts in the ends and at the middle. I made the striker band from stainless 40x3mm. At the rear alu 100x3mm.

The idea above was to make use of the beams I have. The extenders are quite easy to build for me and with another way of clamping it will be reverseble. Also at less than 100USD it will be cheaper than making new beams.
