New insulated boat

Hi guys. Do any of you know of a power boat company that will insulate a new cruiser type boat that I would trailer throughout the country as my liveaboard,RV? The beam would not exceed 10 feet. I presently live in a 30 foot class c motor home. The boat would be hauled by a pickup truck. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Louie

You could quite easily have such a craft BUILT easily, for not a lot of money.

they range from 23 ft to 30 ft.

Usually, you have to sacrifice a bit of space by adding the pointy bits, and the machinery bits, but I cant see why it wouldnt work

In Florida maximum width of trailer would be 8.5 feet, otherwise you need a wide load permit. Think that is pretty standard in a lot of states.

 

Good catch and most states the max over the road width is 8' to 8'6", so a 10' beam boat would need over size permitting, which traveling from state to state can present some logistical issues. In most states not a big deal, but some will have you jumping though hoops, with routes, times, etc.

As far as insulation, well you can get just about anything insulated with a few different products. Which type of insulation would you like? What R value?

 

The national limit is 8'6" for interstates and most states have other limits off the interstate highways. NC has much wider limits for many areas and looking at the actual width of many boats, its obvious that they manage to get around. There are services available that will set you up with all needed permits for a long distance run that are reasonable enough to be worthwhile. We have local fishing tournaments that attract boats from afar and many that arrive on trailers are over 8'6". I know of people who trail an S2 7.9M sailboat to regattas with a 9' beam. Just how a trooper would measure the actual width of many boats is a puzzle also. I expect most will just not bother.

 

There's not a boat I recommended over the legal limit - if was a pretty obvious limitation.
