All the side panels are just being held in place with stainless screws at the moment, no glue. I'm going to run some wiring behind the panels for the lights and a horn up front as well as put 1.5" thick insulation foam for flotation behind the side panels. Home Depot sells the sheets in 4x8 size and its pretty cheap. It also seems to have zero water absorption.

I have refined the technique and find that you only need to follow steps 1,2,4,5,8,9 to get a good finish. The other steps are just overkill and a waste of time.

Picked up a used galvanized trailer on Craiglist over the weekend for $300. It came with a small aluminum boat and a Minn Kota motor. I ended up selling the small boat and motor for $220 so the trailer ended up costing me only $80 :)

Now I'm working on the finishing touches for the boat. Adding cup holders, cleats, , drain holes, rod holders, oar locks and other hardware as well as sanding the interior for a final paint coat.

Also purchased a great hatch cover for about $40 at West Marine for the bow hatch.

Going to put the boat in the water tomorrow and see how she floats. Today repainted the sanded areas and put all the hardware on. Going to launch at Back Bay, Newport Beach, CA, row out to a couple of good fishing spots and spend a few hours fishing.
I'm really curious to see what the water line ends up being on the panga. Next week I'm off to the DMV to register the boat so that i can run it with the electric motor.
I'm very tempted to throw a Sabot mast/sail combo on it with a nice rudder and daggerboard box and make it a motor sailor.

I'm building this same boat and would love to see the photos in the thread but they are unavailable. Are they posted anywhere else?

    Ahoy Greg,
I am just down the road in San Clemente and have been looking at the Spira Mini Panga as a possible build. Would be interested in any comments you have about the building and performance of this neat little boat.

Sorry for the late reply. The boat worked great. Fun for fishing in back bay. Would only max is out at one adult and one kid. Currently finishing up the 19" Quintana Panga from the same site. I stretched it to 22 ft, increased the beam to 8'6" and added a 2' long transom bracket. I sold the mini panga last month.
