Cripes. The part about damned if we do, damned if we don't is new to me. It's hard to imagine any way out. The transfer of the world's riches to the wealthy could be a survival strategy. Buy yourself an artificial environment underground and ride it out for a few generations and see what happens.

Mr. Natural was right all along.

Guy McPherson claims that the reason that other climate scientists don't agree with him that all mankind will be dead inside of 10 years (from 2016) is because said scientists are either liars or cowards. It appears those "liars and cowards" also happen to have an aversion to being wrong time after time ...

    Guy McPherson | RationalWiki
    Predictions
    • In 2007 McPherson predicted the USA's trucking industry would collapse by 2012 due to peak oil, quickly followed by the interstate highway system.[18]
    • In 2008 he predicted the end of civilization by 2018 due to peak oil, "If you're alive in a decade, it will be because you've figured out how to forage locally."[19]
    • In 2012 he predicted that global warming will kill much of humanity by 2020.[20]
    • In 2016 he predicted that humanity and most lifeforms will be extinct due to global warming by mid-2026.[21]
    • In 2017 he predicted that global temperatures would be 6 C above baseline in mid 2018 and that Earth would have no atmosphere by the 2050s. [22]

The wolf may come, but not likely according to Guy's timetable.

Thanks for that. Its good to get a bit of re-assurance, otherwise its a shock to the system.

By co-incidence, I was just watching this discussion of the Arctic Ice problem. We have about 5 Gigatons of Methane in the air at the moment, and if the Methane under the Siberian coastal shelf is released, is anticipated to double or quadruple that in a few years.

Sorry for being not clear. I was being sarcastic. It appears to me that McPherson is misusing science to come up with spurious results. And other scientists are calling him out on it, as my two links indicated.

McPherson claims that all other scientists are only looking at their own narrow disciplines. Only he is pulling all the pieces together and looking at the big picture. That is not true. There are many scientists, or groups of scientists, offering big-picture views. The Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) for one. Bill McKibben, James Hansen, etc. All are sounding warnings, but none say anything about total human obliteration in less than 10 years due to runaway global warming.

McPherson is in as much of an alternate reality as Trump is -- just in the opposite direction.

Well, that's good to hear. At least the world will be somewhat normal until I die, and that's all that matters. (Just kidding)

What geoengineering is going on and what might be a solution to these upcoming problems?

The three-degree world: the cities that will be drowned by global warming | The Guardian

Until now, global efforts such as the Paris climate agreement, have tried to limit global warming to 2C above pre-industrial levels. However, with latest projections pointing to an increase of 3.2C by 2100, these goals seem to be slipping out of reach. This will ultimately redraw the map of the world. Although sea levels will not rise instantaneously, the calculated increases will be “locked in” at a temperature rise of 3C, meaning they will be irreversible even if warming eventually slows down.

See interactive maps of various coastal cities in the main article.

Significant though this seems, the drastic effects of Arctic Ice melt will manifest themselves much earlier, and much more severely than even ocean level rise.

The extra fresh water from melting Greenland snow, is anticipated to have a dramatic effect on the Gulf Stream ,and the flow of warm water up as far as Britain. The models indicate that the Gulf Stream will be blocked by the huge amounts of less dense fresh water, resulting in severe cooling of England and much of Europe, affecting crops in a big way. They also predict the increase in flooding and storms in Europe as a result.

The ironic result might be the impoverishment of all the climate refugees from Northern Africa, that made it to Europe.

There is also a very good case for the failure of the Gulf Stream to affect worldwide weather changes to say, the Monsoon system
Tim Lenton (Sept 2016) gives a good overview here

Fisheries in Pacific Island Countries and Territories under Climate Change | Science Direct
    Highlights
    • Under the RCP 8.5 scenario, tropical Pacific temperature will rise by ≥ 3 °C by 2100.

    • This is accompanied by declines in dissolved oxygen, pH, and net primary production.

    • This will lead to local extinctions of up to 80% of marine species in some regions.

    • 9 of 17 Pacific Island entities experience ≥ 50% declines in maximum catch potential.

    • Impacts can be greatly reduced by mitigation measures under the RCP 2.6 scenario.

Upsurge in big earthquakes predicted for 2018 as Earth rotation slows | The Guardian

In a study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, researches noticed that magnitude-7 earthquakes and larger seem to follow a cyclical 32-year pattern, which follows the periodic deceleration of the earth's rotation. The increased incidence of large earthquakes appears to occur five years after the last millisecond slowdown of the Earth's rotation. Our last slowdown occurred four years ago, suggesting that 2018 may have a larger than normal incidence of significant earthquakes.

Climate change link to decline in seabirds' food source | BBC

The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology reported that the number of sand eels in the diet of European shag and the puffin fell by 48% between 1985 and 2014. The decline coincides with an increase in the North Sea's temperature by 0.037 degrees Celsius per year since 1982. However, the number of other fish prey appearing in the bird's diet had increased, with an average of one new type of prey per year. By 2014, this had increased to 10 new species of prey per year.

Oops, you got me there . . . .

So, today I had a look in the countryside and saw that cows nowadays have a side exit and capture the methane in a plastic bag on their back, which is emptied during milking.

I've also heard that farmers have stopped smoking, and have made their milking parlors and milking robots explosion proof.

< - Of course I've just made up the above is standard procedure in Belchum right now, but there's research in that direction . . . . - >
