We had tested in width 0.8m and length 3m small and light metal V boat, the speed can achieved 7mph. Same shaft hp motor, the speed should be no too much different. Our 120 motor should be slower. But e-motor also has his advantage for same HP, it can use for some bigger and heavier boat. For shaft power, there are some misunderstand. Some famous e-motor companies are using the words. We have to follow them. We may try to change the words to use thrust lbs and power like W recently.

It's been awhile since I posted. We have been doing a lot of sailing this summer. Mostly day trips. We did sleep on our boat 3 nights in July with a 2 person tent pitched on the forward trampoline. It was very comfortable and we will design a more permanent popup style cabin in the future.

We tried some pull tests on the Caroute 120lb motor however the 20 amp toggle switch I was using for series/parallel overheated even using 2 sets of contacts in parallel so I manufactured a knife switch capable of handling 60 amps. Today we did a static pull test tied to a post and came up with 80lbs at full power drawing 60amps and 21.33 volts at the motor leads. I was a bit disappointed since the motor is advertised as a 120 lb thrust motor. Maybe the voltage drop is too great and is the cause of the reduced power. In light of this, we are still happy with the motor and it has performed flawlessly for us.

The next phase of the project will latches and watertight gaskets on the storage hatches, better functioning and looking seats and the real wheel on the helm.

    Hello,

The 21.33V is a lower voltage for the motor. In this voltage, the motor can not draw full thrust.

    Dear all,
I am trying to get some, for me, important facts about the power and speed of one stronger trolling engine. It is hard to conclude anything because there is so many explanations about Lbs/HP/kW.
    The engine is (2017.) HASWING Protruar G 4.0 130Lbs 24V:

    Silnik Elektryczny HASWING Protruar 4.0 130Lbs http://www.mc-sklep.pl/httpwwwmc-sklepplnowosc-2017-silnik-elektryczny-haswing-protruar-g-40-130lbs-24v-p-968html-p-968.html

It has 130 Lbs, 24 V, 1800 W, 1100 rpm, propeller with three arms, diameter 300 mm (propeller pitch?)

Could I reach 5 mph with this boat in attach (fiber, 4.5 m, sea), with few adults and batteries inside...? Could that be enough power for recreation, going to the beach or something like that...?
The ordinary gas engine for that boat is Suzuki/Honda/Tohatsu/ 4HP.

Thank you very very much for any info.... :)

You can consider that our Caroute 24V-120lbs, 1470W brushless motor or 24V-160lbs, 2000W brushless motor. Caroute brushless motor is no reducer and higher efficiency. You can find them in eBay with Key words Caroute brushless trolling motor. For your 4.5m boat, 120lbs can reach 4 to 5 mph, 160lbs can reach 5 to 6mph.

Could you tell me what the KV is of this motor. The one made in Poland is according to my calculation 46. This is very low and very good. Special too convert sea energy, while sailing, back into charging energy for batteries. Bert

    Bert,
The Haswing is a Chinese brand, Their brushless motor is using high PRM brushless motor with reducer in lower motor unit. That's why their noise is 70dB. Our motor is no reducer and more quite. Our efficinecy is higher, max efficiency can achive 80%, full speed efficinecy is about 65%. Here are some info you may need.
    24V-120lbs 1470W max 60A(full speed)max 1350RPM KV 56

Yes, I made the same mistake by reducing my 130KV up to 72 Volt motor with a 4 to 1 reduction gear. It works beautiful, but it is noisy. I have now build a new wooden
rudder with on each side a 130 KV / 24 Volt motor. Your 56 KV motors is much, better in view that normally the speed of turning the prop, when sailing is about halved. i.e. by 625 rpm you will be able to get 12 volt. With a voltage tripler easy to boost to 30 Volt for charging the 24 Volt batteries. I searched but could not find the info on your motor Bert
Mirko, I would consider not to use a brush-less motor with a mechanical reduction. I learned the hard way. Too noisy for my liking. The 56 Kv ( means per battery 1 volt it does 56 rpm. With a 12 Volt battery 672 rpm (1/4/ power and trust) and at 24 Volt 1350 rpm. full trust and power. I think the Caroute motor is a better winner. Bert

    Bert,
For larger power electric boat motor, the brushless motor with reduction gear is right way. Our motor is just designed for small boat or sailboat which do not need high speed. Current, our Max power motor is 48V,2700W which is a little less than Torqeedo Cruise4.o shaft thrust. So what kind of info you may need? You can also let me know.

    Dear all,
thank you for your advices. I could belive that Caroute engine is less noisy, it is also very important to me. But, according to mail form mrs Jane, the price for Caroute 160lbs is quite higher ($950) then Hashwing. It would not be such a problem but on that price I need to pay taxes for about 30%.
Is there any European dealer or warehouse/store of yours where I could buy it without paying an extra money?

I did not think about it before. I do not know why would not be all engines without reduction, I mean, is it so hard to produce engine 1:1? Maybe, as Caroute dealer said, the reduction is ok for more powerfull engines....
    I have red your hard-way-learning...

    What is your name? :)
Well, I am not sure if 120lbs would be enough for me. I woud like to have both prices, for 120lbs and 160lbs engine. Dealer from Germany would be fine.
